What to know: Before buying a PDRN serum, check whether its supporting research tested a cream or an injection.
You may have seen PDRN on a serum, mask or essence. The name also appears in research about injectable treatments. Those are very different ways to use a product, and the distinction matters when you are deciding what to buy.

A serum is not an injection
A July review brought together seven small trials of polynucleotide treatments. They covered several uses, including skin appearance, scars and wound healing. The results were encouraging in places, but the treatments and measurements varied. This does not establish that every PDRN skincare product works. Read the review
A separate report described six people who received polynucleotide injections for facial dents that developed after another treatment. The authors reported improvement, but there was no untreated comparison group. Two authors were advisers to PharmaResearch. The report tells us very little about choosing a daily serum. What “clinically studied” should tell you
A product page should name the formula tested and explain how it was used. If you are buying a cream, research on injections does not answer whether that cream will help.
You may also see the abbreviation PN alongside PDRN. Do not assume that a paper using one term tested the ingredient or preparation in the product you are considering.
Is it worth adding to your routine?
The studies discussed here do not give us a reliable shopping list of PDRN serums. If a brand cannot show relevant evidence for its formula, you can leave the purchase for later.
There is no need to add another step just because an ingredient is getting attention. Start with the change you want from a product, then look for evidence that it can deliver that change.
